Making the Team: Part One -- Covergirl Classic

This is the first post of a three part series that ranks the gymnasts using their direct competition results in addition to several subjective factors. Confused? Look here to read more about the system.

These rankings are for bonus points since not all of the girls competed at the Classic. For the AA, I only ranked the top 5, since any other AAers are not likely to make the national team, let alone selection and training camp.

What does this mean? Raisman receives 5 bonus points to be added to her overall Nationals score. Memmel receives 4 bonus points, Vega receives 3, Wofford receives 2, and B.Caquatto receives 1.

These vault scores and rankings are based on the 1st vault performed (if two were performed). The emphasis of this system is on the team, not individual success. Sacramone receives 5 bonus points for her Nationals vault score. Raisman receives 4, Vega receives 3, Memmel receives 2, and Jay receives 1.

Wieber receives 5 bonus points for her total Nationals bars score. Douglas receives 4, B.Caquatto receives 3, Memmel receives 2, and M.Caquatto receives 1.

Sacramone receives 5 bonust points for her total Nationals beam score. Wieber receives 4, Memmel receives 3, Raisman receives 2, and Wofford receives 1.

Raisman receives 5 bonus points for her total Nationals floor score. Sacramone receives 4, Vega receives 3, Memmel receives 2, and Maroney receives 1.


What does it all mean?!

It is too soon to tell at this point, since not everyone competed at CGC & those that did compete did not showcase full difficulty or perform on all of their events. However, using these scores (and these scores alone) my team of three AAers, two 2 to 3 event specialist, and one 1 event specialist looks like this:

Raisman, Memmel, Vega, Sacramone, Wieber, and Douglas.

Vault: (Memmel), Vega, Raisman, Sacramone
Bars: (Raisman), (Vega), Memmel, Douglas, Wieber
Beam: (Vega), (Memmel), Raisman, Sacramone, Wieber

**Remember that this roster is based solely on the CGC results. Once we incorporate nationals, things will get much more interesting.
